Janet is a single mother, as her husband passed away in 2004 due to sickness.
Janet’s youngest goes to primary school, but the eldest does not attend school because the family could not afford the fees.
Janet receives some food from her relatives’ farms and the family eat only about 3 evenings a week, mainly potatoes and Ugali.
They live in a 2 room house, however this offers little protection and they have to collect rain water or use the river for water. They use lamps for light.
