Ruth is a married mother. However, because her husband suffered leg injuries in tribal fighting in 2007 and cannot work, none of their children have been to school. Their relatives supply them with enough food to eat about 3 evenings a week, mainly potatoes and ugali. They have no house of their own, so they live in a relative’s house which has no kitchen and doesn’t offer much protection. They collect water from a river and use tin lamps for lighting.
