Selinah is a married mother, whose husband earns a little money from working on a farm. However he doesn’t bring any of his wages back to the family but uses it all to supply his drinking habit. Their children go to school, but Selinah struggles to pay the school fees
She produces potatoes and ugali only on their farm and the family eat in the evenings. They live in a house which has two rooms and a kitchen, getting water from a river and using tin lamps for light.
