Sharon is a married mother, whose husband earns a little money from working on a farm. However he doesn’t bring any of his wages back to the family but uses it all to supply his drinking habit. Moreover, Sharon suffers from domestic violence from her husband when he is drunk. Sharon struggles to raise her baby due to lack of money. She gets potatoes and maize from neighbours’ farms so the family eat about 5 evenings a week. Their house – a single room and no kitchen – is not very well protected, and they get water from the well and use tin lamps for light.
