Ann is a married mother. Her husband earns a little money from farm work, but he has another wife and lives with her, so doesn’t support Ann and her children. Ann’s children go to school, but she struggles to pay the school fees. She produces some potatoes and occasionally maize from their farm, but the family only eat about 3 evenings a week. They live in a house consisting of only one room and a kitchen, getting water from the river and using tin lamps for lighting.
